Calen Health is a modern healthcare service offering personalized, on-demand care through virtual consultations, health tracking, and wellness support.
You need to have a quiet space and will be sent a link to connect to; it can be used on your phone , tablet or computer. We recommend you have reliable internet speed above otherwise we can revert to a phone call but it's nice to see your face.
We encourage your first consult to be by telehealth Over 70% of consults can safely be handled from the convenience of home -see our safety checklist below.
Some conditions are better handled face to face. We can't cover all of them here and your clinician will guide you but these symptoms or signs require an in person appointment.
Of course we will communicate with your existing GP. There will be times when your GP is not available or not expert in certain conditions and clinicians at Calen Health can compliment the skills or your trusted local GP and collaborate for your best health.
It depends on your issue- we think quality care shouldn't be rushed. So please ensure that there is enough time to give us your background for context. If you are very well it can be a quick appointment but please ensure you have completed the pre-screening questionnaire sent to you.
If you are in Australia and have a valid medicare care card then yes; until 1st November 2026 there is medicare eligibility for standard consults up to 19 minutes but to be eligible for medicare rebates for longer consultations you would have to nominate Calen Health as your main provider under MyMedicare. Click here to see the full list of rules
Consult fees are $110/ 15 minute appointment unless there are specialised services such as GP mental health care plans please contact us if you need more details. When you click to book the appointment, and choose the appropriate length and type , the fees will be revealed to you prior to booking The standard medicare rebate for 15 minutes is $42.85, please ensure you are eligible for a medicare rebate by clicking here
Medicare only covers telehealth services when both you and the clinician are physically in Australia at the time of the consultation.
For many types of telehealth appointments, Medicare requires that you have:had a face-to-face appointment at Calen Health in the past 12 months,
OR
be registered with Calen Health under MyMedicare. If one of these applies, you will usually be eligible for a Medicare rebate for telehealth.
Medicare allows telehealth rebates for certain patients even if you have not seen us face-to-face before. These include (but are not limited to):
- Babies under 12 months of age
- People experiencing homelessness
- People in isolation or quarantine
- People affected by natural disasters
- Urgent after-hours care
- Sexual or reproductive health consultations
- Pregnancy counselling
- Blood-borne virus care
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients receiving care through eligible Aboriginal health services.
If any of these apply, please let us know when booking.
Telehealth is great for many situations, but sometimes an in-person visit is safer or more effective, especially when a physical examination is required.
If telehealth isn’t suitable for your needs, we’ll help you arrange an in-person appointment instead.
Because Medicare rules are complex and rebates depend on your personal situation, we may not be able to confirm your eligibility until your clinician has assessed you during the consultation.
We will always do our best to inform you beforehand, but we cannot guarantee Medicare or insurer rebates for telehealth or in-person appointments.
To avoid unexpected fees:Please make sure your Medicare details are up to date.Check that you are registered with Calen Health in MyMedicare if you want easier access to telehealth rebates.
Let us know if you think you qualify for one of the exemption categories above. If you are unsure, our team is here to help guide you.
If your telehealth appointment is not eligible for a Medicare rebate, you may need to pay privately.
We will always explain fees and provide informed financial consent before your appointment.
Our reception team is happy to help.
Please call us or send an enquiry and we’ll guide you through the process.
